The ADEPT60 image fusion processor (IFP) uses an advanced technique developed by Waterfall Solutions and Octec to combine two input video streams into a single, enhanced video output.
This powerful fusion technique is supported by flexible image pre-processors which can provide noise reduction and contrast enhancement for a range of sensor types including image intensifiers and thermal imagers.
The image alignment module can compensate for misalignment of the sensors using a full projective warp and can also deal with common radial lens distortions.
The intelligent fusion scheme analyses incoming video in order to maximise scene detail and contrast in the fused output. This algorithm has been designed especially for a low latency, real-time implementation which is flexible enough to fuse images from a wide range of sensors.
The images above demonstrate the performance of the Waterfall Solutions / Octec image fusion scheme. The images show soldiers moving behind a smoke screen. The two inputs to the fusion algorithm were from a colour video camera (top left) and a long wave thermal imager (top right). The fused output image (bottom) shows the combined information from both sensors.
We can see the roof colours and detail in the trees from the colour video and details in the buildings behind the smoke screen from the thermal imager.
We have prepared a joint brochure on this innovative application, which you can download below.
