Algorithm development & system assessment test-bed

Waterfall Solutions is helping the Defence Science Technology Laboratory (dstl) to critically assess the capabilities of current and future defence systems by providing a specially designed software test-bed.

The test-bed will allow suites of algorithms used by different sensor systems to be configured and exercised against real or synthetic data. Automated analysis tools are also included with the tool to provide graphical and numerical assessment of portions of the algorithmic chain or the trade-off of different systems' algorithm capabilities.

The test-bed has been delivered in the Matlab environment. This has allowed the easy addition of new algorithms to the test-bed as well as rapid changes to be made to the user-interface and access to the many in-built features of Matlab (e.g. image manipulation and graphics routines). A specially designed GUI completes the usability of the test-bed.

Using a Rapid Application Development approach, we successfully designed and delivered our first end-to-end prototype test-bed just four months after contract award and we are currently working closely with dstl to ensure that subsequent planned upgrades to the tool fulfil the demanding requirements of the military assessment process.
